STUDENT, ALUMNI NEWS AND PERFORMANCES IN 2013-2014, 2014-2015 AND 2015-2016
 


LANVI LU  is going to be principal cello during her tour of Argentina and Uruguay with the Oakland Youth Orchestra this summer 2013.  
In September 2013 seating auditions Lanvi won the principal cello position in OYO! 
 
RACHEL WAN auditioned and got into YPSO in September!  
 
DAVID BASILI continues in his 2nd year with YPSO.


2014 

MICHAELA MARTIN won the principal cello position at College Park High School! 

RACHEL WAN won the principal cello position at Acalanes High School!  She also continues her second year with YPSO. 

Joseph Choi continues his second year as principal cello at Sequoya Middle School!  

Phu-Quy Ho won the principal cello position at Stanley Middle School!  

2015 

MICHAELA MARTIN continues as principal cellist at College Park High School until June graduation.  In October she'll be off to UC Santa Cruz!  

MEGAN CONNER has graduated from Acalanes High School and is on her way to UC Berkeley in October!  

RACHEL WAN continues being principal cello at Acalanes High School through June.  

JOSEPH CHOI continues being principal cello at Sequoya Middle School until June graduation.  

PHU-QUY HO continues as principal cellist at Stanley Middle School.  

TESSA MARTIN won the principal cello position at College Park High School starting in September!  

RACHEL WAN continues her 3rd year with YPSO.  

LANVI LU received the honor of participating in the young musicians mentoring program with the MidSummer Mozart Festival orchestra under the direction of maestro George Cleve. She played the full 2 weeks with the Festival in July. 

LANVI continues to be principal cello in the Oakland Symphony Youth Orchestra!  

ALUMNI BRIAN LAMM is on his way to UC Berkeley this October!  

Alumnus PAIGE NORMANN came back to play in the 1st Annual Lafayette Cello Bash.  Now she is on her way back for her Junior year at Asuza Pacific University and is planning her 5th solo cello recital!  GO PAIGE!! 


2016 
Alumnus Lanvi Lu is attending UC Berkeley double majoring in Biology and Music performance!  
 

Paige Normann married her High School sweetheart Richard Vanderbuilt in August becoming Paige Vanderbuilt!  Paige received her degree in Cello performance from Asuza Pacific University in June and now performs and teaches helping put her husband through his final year of college.  Congratulations Paige and Richard!  

Tessa Martin continues her Senior year as principal cello at College Park High School. 

Tessa Martin got into YPSO and placed 3rd chair!  

Erica Riepe is now a Senior and principal cello at Campolindo High School!  

Marc Schultz is assistant principal cello at Campolindo High School!

DAWN'S 2013 PERFORMANCES
 
 
 
 
Dawn will once again be performing at the Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Birthday Party.  Save the date of Sunday, January 27, 2013 to attend.  Come join us at 5pm in the Berkeley City Club for great auction items, food, drinks and Mozart's chamber music performed by select members of the MidSummer Mozart Orchestra.  The program will include the Flute Quartet in C major and movements from his Divertimento string trio for violin, viola and cello.  For further information and tickets contact Peter Susskind at 415 627-9141 or peter@midsummermozart.org 
 
Dawn will be the featured guest artist with the "Duo Camaraderie", which is a flute and piano ensemble.  The Duo collaborates with a different artist for each of their concerts and this time with Dawn will perform the Ned Rorem Trio and Villa Lobos 'The Jet Whistle'.  Dawn will also perform Beethoven 12 Variations from Handels Oratorium 'Judas Maccabaus' for cello and piano.  Admission is free.  Sunday, March 3rd, 3pm at the Crowden School in Berkeley.  
 
Dawn will again perform the flute trio by Rorem with Laura Scarlata flute and Sharon Lee Kim piano, on Sharon's Faculty recital at Saint Mary's College in Moraga.  This free concert will be in the Chapel on March 21st at 8pm.  
 
Dawn will be giving her Faculty cello recital at Saint Mary's College in Moraga on April 11th at 8pm.  The performance will take place in the Chapel and Dawn will be accompanied by pianist Sharon Lee Kim.  Violinist Phil Santos will be the guest artist on the second half of the program. The performance will include works by Beethoven, Bloch, Haydn, Massenet and Brahms.  Admission is free.
 
Dawn will be performing a brief piece called "Prelude for Cello and Piano", "Sextet" and "Duo for Clarinet and Cello" by Luke Riches on his senior composition recital.  Monday, April 22nd at 8pm in the chapel at Saint Mary's College in Moraga.  Free admission.  
 
Dawn will be performing the Divertimento for violin, viola and cello KV563 by Mozart with the MidSummer Mozart chamber players at SF Noontime Concert series Old St Mary's Church on California and Grant streets.  Tuesday, May 14th at 12:30pm, free admission. 
 
Dawn will be performing on the Saint Mary's College Chamber Musicians concerts.  Tuesday, May 14th at 8pm in the chapel and Wednesday, May 15th at 1pm in the Soda Center.  She will be playing "Requiem" by Popper for 3 cellos and piano, "Duo for Clarinet and Cello by Luke Riches and she will premiere  a work for cello and piano called "Dangerous Waters" by Zachary Barbieri.  Free admission. 
 
Dawn will be performing at SF Noontime Concert series Old St Mary's Cathedral on California and Grant streets. She will perform with the MidSummer Mozart Chamber Players Mozart's flute quartet in C Major and the "Hunt" string quartet.  Tuesday, June 25th at 12:30pm.  Free admission.  
 
Dawn will be performing Zach Barbieri's "Dangerous Waters" for cello and piano, "Thais" Meditation by Massenet for cello, piano and dancer, and the Finale of the Beethoven Trio opus 70, No. 2 in E flat Major for Piano, violin and cello on September 29th at 3pm in the chapel of Saint Mary's College.  Her performances will be a part of a larger program to inaugurate a new Steinway grand piano donated to the college. 
 
Dawn is now the Director of the Faculty Chamber Sunday's Series at Saint Mary's College and will be producing her first concert in the chapel on October 13th at 3pm.  Come hear her and other magnificent faculty and guest artists perform ensemble music by Mozart, Durufle and Mendelssohn!  All concerts are free to the public.
  
November is turning out to be a very exciting month!  November 3rd at 4pm, come hear Dawn perform with Philip Santos and Sharon Lee Kim the Mendelssohn Trio in D minor in Lafayette at the Presbyterian church on Carol Lane.  The trio will be at the end after a wonderful violin sonata and Trombone sonata.
 
  
Saturday November 16th at 8pm come to the Throckmorton theater in Mill Valley to hear Dawn perform the "Cello Chix" in the Dirty Cello Band!  "I'm dedicating this one to Tina Turner!"  Tickets are $20 and will sell out so don't wait!
 
 
On November 21st, 23rd and 24th Dawn will be collaborating and performing principal cello with soloist and director Christina Mok and the Monterey Symphony.  They will perform Vivaldi's "Four Seasons". In Salinas and Carmel at the Sunset Center.
 
  
Monday November 25th, Saint Mary's College Chamber Musicians at 8pm in the chapel.  Dawn will perform a Dragonetti duo for cello and bass with student James Scolamieri. The performance will be repeated on December 1st at 4pm and will include a premier performance of the "Enigmatic Nightmare" by Rebecca played by Dawn and pianist Lino Rivera.    Hope to see you there!

DAWN'S 2014 PERFORMANCES
 
 
 
 
 
Dawn will be performing with Diane Maltester and LaDene Otsuki in the chapel at Saint Mary's College on Sunday, January 19th at 3pm.  The trio will perform a Beethoven Trio for Clarinet, Cello and Piano on the Faculty Chamber Sunday's Series.  Free admission
 
 
Dawn has been asked to perform a Symphony-Concertantes by Saint George and more African composers with the African American Chamber Ensemble at the Museum of African Diaspora in San Francisco at 2pm on February 9th.  Based in Los Angeles, the ensembles Director Dr. Janise White tours the country with the ensemble lecturing and performing these great little known works, many which were written around the time of Mozart.  $15 admission at the door
 
 
Dawn will perform as assistant principal cello with the California Symphony at Lesher Center in Walnut Creek at 4pm on Sunday March 2nd.  Call the box office for tickets
 
 
Another Faculty Chamber Sunday's Series at Saint Mary's College at 3pm on March 23rd in the chapel.  Dawn will play with Duo Camaraderie a flute trio by Bach and other works.  Free admission
 
 
Dawn will perform with student Meg Adams "Dangerous Waters" by Zachary Barbieri on Meg's senior recital in the chapel at Saint Mary's College on April 7th at 8pm.  Other beautiful piano works fill out her program.  Free admission
 
 
Dawn will be principal cello with the California Symphony playing ''Scheherizade" and other wonderful works.  4pm on Sunday May 4th in Walnut Creek at the Lesher Center.  Tickets at the box office. 
 
 
Dawn will play "The Marriage of Figaro'' the Mozart opera at the small and intimate Cinnabar Theater in Petaluma at 8pm on May 30, 31, June 13, 14.  Get tickets at the box office 
 
 
Dawn will be performing with the MidSummer Mozart Festival Orchestra July 19th through the 27th.  Please come to one of our concerts.  Check our website for concert dates, venues and tickets 


Dawn will be principal cello in the Modesto Symphony Pops at the Gallo Winery in Modesto, 7:30 pm on September 6th playing music by Neil Diamond.  


Dawn will be the featured guest artist once again with "Duo Camaraderie" the flute and piano ensemble.  Laura, Sharon and Dawn will perform Ned Rorem's "Trio" for Flute, Cello and Piano on the free and live chamber music day sponsored by SFFCM at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Sunday, September 21st at 3:30pm.  Plan to come for the whole day of performances starting from 12 to 6:30pm.  There will be different wonderful ensembles performing simultaneously in all 3 halls every 1/2 hour!  Free admission


Dawn will perform Kol Nidrei with Organist Michael Secour for Yom Kippur on October 3rd at the 5:15 and 8:15 services held at Temple Isaiah in Lafayette, CA.


Dawn will perform Dangerous Waters by Zach Barbeiri for cello and piano with Meg Adams at the Donors concert given at Saint Mary's College chapel at 3 pm on October 5th.    


The San Francisco Composers Inc. has asked Dawn to perform with Greg Dufford formerly Clarinetist/Bass Clarinetist with the San Francisco Opera Orchestra and long time member of the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players and Fernanda Nieta who is a stand out Pianist in the Denver area to perform for their 31st season!  The trio will perform a piece that's said to be determinedly brutish, joyfully violent, defiant and confrontational with crued dissonances pounding against one another.  The piece is called "Crunch Time" by Don Freund.  Come hear us at First Congregational Church in Berkeley on October 7th at 8pm.  Call the Composers Inc. box office for tickets 
 
 
Dawn will perform with Diane Maltester and LaDene Otsuki the "Fantasy Trio" by Robert Muczynski on the Faculty Chamber Sunday's Series on November 2nd, 3pm in the chapel at Saint Mary's College.  Free admission.  This same concert with one additional Beethoven Trio will be repeated on November 9th at the First Presbyterian Church in Vallejo on the Vallejo Symphony Chamber Series 
 
 
Dawn has been asked to travel to Los Angeles to perform with the African American Chamber Ensemble a Symphonie - Concertantes for violin, viola and cello and chamber orchestra by the first classical composer of African ancestry, Chevalier de Saint-Georges (1745-1799).  The performance will take place at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art on a free Chamber Sunday's series which will be live streamed on KUSC radio at 6pm on December 21st! 


Dawn will be playing a California Symphony Pops concert at the Lesher Center in Walnut Creek at 3pm and 7pm on December 23rd.  A great holiday program featuring the San Francisco Boys Chorus.

 DAWN'S 2015 PERFORMANCES 



Dawn will present and perform the Faculty Chamber Sunday's Series in the chapel at Saint Mary's College at 3pm on January 11th.  The program will include works for flute and piano played by guest artist Laura Scarlata and Sharon Lee Kim, 4 hand piano works played by  Sharon Lee Kim and Renee Witon, Handel sonata for 2 cellos and piano played by Dawn Foster-Dodson, guest artist Julie Feldman and Sharon Lee Kim and more.  Free admission 

Dawn will be performing with the California Symphony at the Concord Pavillian on August 21st at 8:30pm the Wizard of Oz on screen with live orchestra.
